Esri Acquires ClearTerra
Redland-based GIS software giant Esri announced on Friday morning that it has acquired ClearTerra, a developer of data extraction technology, from ClearShark, LLC. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. ClearTerra's technology helps extract unstructured data from emails, briefings, and reports, and automatically extracts geographic coordinates from that information. According to Esri, it will use the technology acquisition to add those same features to its ArcGIS platform. Esri said that kind of data, in particularly, is used in the defense, intelligence, and public safety areas, where there are "massive volumes" of unstructured data. Esri said those tools are also useful in other field, such as petroleum, utilities, and maritime environments.
