Elon Musk: First Boring Company Tunnel Nearly Complete
The first tunnel being built by Los Angeles-based Boring Company, a prototype tunnel meant to prove out its technology and feasibility of transporting people and traffic beneath city streets, is nearly complete, according to Boring Company and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Musk said that the Boring Company will unveil the tunnel on December 10th to the public. The idea behind Musk's tunneling project is to bypass traffic in Los Angeles and other cities by transporting vehicles and people by rapidly traveling subsurface sleds, transporting cars to tunnel level by special elevators. The first test tunnel starts in the parking lot of Spacex, and surfaces in the garage of a home nearby in Hawthorne. The tunnel runs approximately 2 miles under city streets.
