EdgeCast Extends With Telecom Carriers
Santa Monica-based EdgeCast, the content delivery network (CDN) provider, said this morning that it has launched a "Licensed CDN" program, after it successfully built out a production content delivery network for a major carrier, and signed a deal with another. EdgeCast said it recently designed, developed, and deployed a CDN for a tier one U.S. telecommunications carrier, and also signed a deal to power a CDN carrier with Asian telecom Pacnet. EdgeCast says its offering has helped its U.S. carrier avoid easily spending over $100 million to built out its own CDN, by instead allowing that carrier to leverage EdgeCast's CDN on that customer's own infrastructure. EdgeCast hasn't detailed either of the CDN deals, but the firm said it is looking to provide its stack and software to other carriers.
