Digital Domain Holdings Buys Digital Funk Machine For New VR Game Studio
Playa Vista-based Digital Domain Holdings, which is the parent company of visual effects company Digital Domain, said on Thursday that it has acquired videogame developer Digital Funk Machine, and created a new division called Digital Domain Interactive. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Digital Domain said the new interactive unit will focus entirely on development and production of virtual reality content. The new division will continue to be led by Jeremy Airey, the founder of Digital Funk Machine. Digital Domain said Airey has also served at Konami, Midway Home Entertainment and Interplay Productions. The two said that Digital Funk Machine has created titles for EA's MLB franchise, Sims DJ, Tony Hawk's Underground, Monopoly Classic, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09.
