CAA, William Morris Back Online Video Education Site
Two, Hollywood heavyweights--the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and William Morris Endeavor (WME)--are backing an online site which provides live workshops from experts. According to creativeLive, it has raised $8M in a funding round, which came from Creative Artists Agency (CAA), William Morris Endeavor (WME), CrunchFund and Google Ventures. As part of the funding Caterina Fake, the founder of Flickr, will join the company's board. The startup has locations in San Francisco and Seattle.
creativeLive competes against Lynda.com, the online video education site based in Goleta, which has grown to be one of the region's fastest growing companies through its online courses for learning creative software. Lynda.com recently raised a humongous, $103M funding round in January, and just acquired another video education site in Europe in February.
