Business.com Acquired By Purch
Carlsbad-based Business.com, the online business directory and information site which was most recently in the hands of JMI Equity, has been sold to New York-based content publisher Purch, the two said Wednesday afternoon. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Purch said the deal would help it expand into the SMB market. Purch is the publisher of such sites as Top Ten Reviews, Tom's Guide, Tom's Hardware, Live Science, and many others. Business.com was headed by Tony Uphoff. Business.com has a long, corporate history, having started life in Santa Monica in 1999, as a $7.5M domain name sold to startup incubator eCompanies, transformed into a $345M sale to R.H. Donnelly in 2007 by Jake Winebaum, turned over to Dex.com after the sale, and eventually shut down, but restarted after a purchase by JMI Equity and Resource Nation in 2011.
