Broadcom Sues Qualcomm
Irvine-based Broadcom has sued San Diego-based Qualcomm, in a patent infringement lawsuit over wired and wireless communications and multimedia processing technology. Broadcom is looking to stop Qualcomm from selling both current and next generation cell phone products. Broadcom said that it believes Qualcomm is infringing on 10 Broadcom patents covering Qualcomm's current and next generation cellular baseband and radio frequency. Broadcom also said it filed suit with the US International Trade Commission alleging that Qualcomm has engaged in unfair trade practices. It is seeking the ban of importation of Qualcomm's electronic components into the U.S. The suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and seeks both monetary damages as well as a permanent injunciton barring manufacture and sale of all Qualcomm baseband and RF integrated circuits.
