Broadcom Sues Emulex Over Patents

Irvine-based Broadcom said today that it is suing Emulex Corporation, over patents related to its networking and communications technology. Broadcom filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California Monday, saying that Emulex infringed on ten Broadcom patents, covering high speed data and storage networking technology. Broadcom said it is seeking both monetary damages and injunctive relief. The patents in question are 6,424,194; 6,766,389; 7,038,516; 7,215,169; 7,239,636; 7,295,555; 7,313,623; 7,450,500; 7,471,691; and 7,486,124. The patent battle follows a long and contentious attempt by Broadcom to buy Emulex earlier this year, which was ultimately dropped in July after both Emulex and its shareholders declined to agree to Broadcom's offers.
