Broadcom Buys AMD's Digital TV Business
Irvine-based Broadcom announced this morning that the firm has acquired AMD's digital TV business. According to the companies, Broadcom will pay approximately $192.8M in cash in exchange for AMD's digital TV assets. Approximately 530 employees at AMD's digital TV team will join Broadcom as part of the acquisition. AMD's digital TV products include ICs used for DTV processing, receiver ICs, and other processors used for various digital TV functions. According to Broadcom, the acquisition will allow the firm to scale and accelerate completion of its digital TV product portfolio. The deal is expected to close in Broadcom's fourth quarter, ending December 31, 2008.
