Blue Targets Prosumer Market, YouTubers With New $100 XLR Microphone
Westlake Village-based microphone maker Blue, best known for its USB microphones that are popular among podcasters and others, is moving up into the professional and prosumer market, saying this morning that it is launching a new, cardioid XLR condenser microphone specifically for the professional recording, YouTube production, and streaming market. The company said the new microphone, called the Ember, is specifically aimed at on-camera applications, and will cost $99.99. XLR is the microphone connector typically used in professional recording equipment. Blue said its microphone is "perfect for home studio creators" and includes a mount for any standard microphone stand. The microphone will be available in February. Blue Microphones--which was founded in Westlake Village--is now part of Logitech International, which is based in Switzerland.
