Amgen Selects Rhode Island For New Manufacturing Plant
Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said on Tuesday that it has selected Rhode Island for the company's new next-generation biomanufacturing plant. According to Amgen, the new plant will be in its existing West Greenwich, R.I., and will product products for the U.S. and global markets. Amgen already has a 75-acre campus in Rhode Island, Amgen Rhode Island, in that location, which will host the new plant. The biotech firm said it expects to create an additional 150 manufacturing positions, plus approximately 200 construction and validation jobs as a result of the new manufacturing plant. Amgen already employs 625 full time staff at its Rhode Island campus.
