Aerojet Rocketdyne Eyes Energy Storage
Canoga Park-based aerospace and defense products developer Aerojet Rocketdyne is taking aim at the energy storage market, saying today that it has tied with ZAF Energy Systems, to work on an energy storage system. According to Aerojet Rocketdyne and ZAF Energy Systems, the new energy storage product will use ZAF's nickel-zinc batteries, and Aerojet's battery management system (BMS). Financial details of the link were not announced. The two said that nickel-zinc batteries are ideal for replacing lead-acid batteries, particularly in the areas of performance, weight, and life cycle requirements. Aerojet Rocketdyne said its battery management systems provide control and health monitoring capabilities for a variety of energy storage solutions. The two said the new energy storage system is being aimed at both space and military applications.
