Acacia Buys ADAPTIX For $160M
Newport Beach-based patent licensing firm Acacia Research said today that one of its subsidiaries has acquired ADAPTIX, a developer of 4G wireless technology, for $160M. ADAPTIX holds 230 issued and pending patents in 13 countries, focused on 4G technology such as OFDMA and MIMO. Acacia acquires patent portfolios, and then licenses those patents to companies. Acacia said the move would allow it to expand its patent licensing business into the area of 4G wireless technology. Acacia is led by Paul Ryan.
